STAVANGER -- Two international standards for storage and transport of carbon dioxide (CO2) will be launched today. The standards were developed by experts from 16 countries.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate is hosting the launch. Today’s seminar was organized in cooperation with Standard Norge and Gassnova.
Norway’s top experts have participated in the work to develop the standards. For several years, Norwegian CCS (carbon capture and storage) experts from the private sector, the authorities and research institutions have participated in the standardization work in ISO, the International Organization for Standardization. Two important CCS standards are now being launched, one for transport and one for storage.
The transport standard stipulates requirements related to design, construction and operation of the pipelines, while the storage standard contains requirements related to selecting a storage site, operation and shutdown, among other things.
Today’s program will focus on the significance that the new standards will have for transport and storage of CO2 on the Norwegian shelf.
